About Barbaragowdy
We Started Reading the Paperwork
Barbaragowdy works on garage doors across Huntington Beach from a shop on Slater Ave, a little under three miles back from the sand. We got into the warranty side of this by accident. Enough homeowners near the pier called about rust on a door that was supposedly covered for life that we began asking to see the actual document, and the same clause kept turning up.
It is rarely hidden. It is normally a short paragraph near the exclusions, and it says that the finish coverage does not apply within a stated distance of salt water. The distance varies by brand. What does not vary is that a large share of this city sits inside it.
What That Means in Practice
If your address is inside the exclusion, the printed finish term is not a benefit you own. Corrosion resistance still has a price, but it has moved from the warranty into the parts list, and you either pay it up front in galvanised and stainless hardware or you pay it later in a second set of hinges and rollers.
If your address is outside it, the opposite is true. Standard hardware is fine, the coverage is real, and spending on marine grade parts three miles inland is money that could have gone somewhere useful.
How We Work
We measure the straight line distance from your address to salt water before recommending anything, and we count the harbour channels and the marsh, not only the open ocean. Then we tell you which of the three bands you are in and what the sensible spec is.
We will happily tell you a door does not need replacing. Surface bloom on a hinge is cosmetic. A bottom bracket with elongated bolt holes is not, and that one we will not let you ignore.
Springs, cables and bottom brackets are ours, not yours. Everything else we are glad to explain over the phone.
